The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method is a unique approach to human movement and learning. Often our movement is limited due to unconscious habits of muscular holding. Feldenkrais lessons help people recognize and interrupt these habits, and eliminate limitations and restrictions. We use a persons natural ability to learn from experience (intelligence) to develop better organization and coordination of movement. As students let go of unnecessary effort they start to move more in accordance with the ability of the skeleton and experience reduction of strain and tension throughout the whole body. This new way of coordinating results in increased strength, grace and well being. The more a person develops their self image through movement, the better they are able to sense and direct how they think, feel, learn, and act in the world. This learning is directly applied to improve all of life's daily activities, as well as athletic and artistic skills.

Benefits of Feldenkrais:
  • Restore function after an injury and prevent secondary injuries from unconscious compensations
  • Reduce or eliminate chronic pain
  • Refine skills as athletes, dancers, musicians, martial artists, and other performance artists
  • Reduce the effects of stress and tension
  • Improve posture, balance and breathing
  • Increase flexibility & range of motion without stretching or straining
  • Relieve neurological conditions, (such as stroke, M.S., C.P., and Parkinson's), by improving their coordination, ease of movement, stamina, and stability
  • Help people stay active & flexible as they age. Loss of function, stooped posture, and restricted movement are often thought inevitable as we age. While we recommend the Method for prevention, it's never too late to learn to move more easily and comfortably, and recover lost function
